We’ve got some super duper exciting news to share! Since launching the Back To the Land: 2Land 2Furious Landraiser just two days ago, we’ve heard from three settler patron saints who between them, are willing to match donations up to $11,000! Every dollar donated gets doubled! We have until the end of September to match these funds!!!!!!!!

Ahem. Perhaps too many exclamation points, but you can understand our joy, cî?

We are raising funds in a number of ways. If any of these are your jam, awesome! And if you can’t contribute, please share! Click the links below.

This Language and Culture Camp is a life-long dream, and something our people are truly calling for, something our youth desperately need more access to. You can make it happen, close enough to the city to be easily accessible for our urban folks!

Out of curiosity, are donation deductible?
with thanks,

I wish! No, sorry, we aren’t a charitable organization. We are looking at forming a land trust so that this land can be held in common and protected for the cultural uses its intended for, but charitable organizations are subject to the political whims of whatever party is in power, and we saw under Harper that orgs doing anything deemed “political” can have their status yanked. We want to avoid that, because for some, Indigenous resurgence is inherently threatening.

So is it going to be a ‘society’ that will be making the purchase? Or is that still to be determined?

Absolutely, it would be too much of a headache to buy the land as an individual and then transfer to a land trust (most likely in the form of a non-profit org). Raising this much money means we have some time to get the land trust formed first, so the purchase will be made by that non-profit org.

Great, Thanks. Makes sense. Sounds like a great way to do it!

The whole purpose of this is ensuring any land we get remains in the hands of community for language and culture activities! Very exciting stuff 😀
