I am excited to announce that due to me getting serious about having a year of “saying no,” my schedule is finally starting to clear up. I’ve gone from doing an average of forty events a year to having just a handful in 2022. So what does this mean for my Patreon?
Well, most importantly, it means I actually have some time to devote to the projects I am actually passionate about: Métis in Space (podcast and Land Trust) nêhiyawêwin (Cree) language development, and writing.
So how can you support?
First, subscribing to my Patreon! For those of you who have been there since the beginning, kinanâskomitinâwâw! Tell yer buds, tell yer buds’ buds, their aunties and uncles and cousins too! Having some more folks sign up would be huge.
Second, get ready to have the opportunity to test-drive some content! Now, I know not everyone wants to interact on here, and that is perfectly fine. However, if you’re a hand-on type, I’ve got two things I’m going to be launching in April that I think might interest you.
The first project is something I’ve been wanting to do for over a decade – I want to create a free nêhiyawêwin (Plains Cree “Y” dialect) resource that would be delivered asynchronously online. I’m talking a full set of lessons that doesn’t stop at learning how to count or naming a few animals. But I don’t want to release it until it’s done. My fear is that I’ll run out of steam and/or need to take a break for a while, and I don’t want to leave folks hanging once they begin their language-learning journey. I strongly believe that when it comes out, it needs to be complete, start to finish.
Thus, I’ll start the beta version on Patreon. That gives Patrons the chance to take the lessons for a spin, and offer suggestions if you are so inclined. It also gives me some breathing time to do it right, without rushing. Then, when the course is ready, it goes fully public, here on apihtawikosisan.com. Your support will help ensure this resource makes it out into the world.
And if learning nêhiyawêwin isn’t your thing exactly, my second project launching in April will be focused on writing resources! If you have been struggling with writing projects, well, so have I. I’ve done a tonne of work lately on finding a better work flow, and I would really love to share those resources and tips with you. It’s a way to keep me accountable to my writing, to upgrade skills, and to share what I’ve learned and what I’m learning. The literary landscape is not a pie! We don’t need to operate under a scarcity mentality – we can help each other get our stories out.
So if either of those things are appealing to you, please become a Patron, if you haven’t already, and if you’re already on this wild ride with me, spread the word! Remember though that you never have to interact if that’s just not your jam – if you just want to support the work I’m doing, that’s awesome too.
I’ll see you all in April!
I am wondering if my 9 year old son portraying a Native American Chief in a class play and wearing a headdress as part of his costume would be disrespectful?
