Dan Levy recently enrolled in the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Native Studies’ massive open online course “Indigenous Canada,” which is a 12 lesson exploration of Canadian history and contemporary issues from an Indigenous perspective. (I don’t like to call these kinds of things “Indigenous issues” anymore, because these are Canadian realities too, not just what we experience as Indigenous peoples.)
Rather than just hitting retweet on the course and diving in himself, Dan issued a call for others to join him in taking the course. He’s been having discussions with awesome folks from the Faculty of Native Studies each week about the theme of that module, and this past weekend I got the chance to chat with him, Dr. Tracy Bear, and Dr. Paul Gareau for week 11: Current Social Movements. It was a really great conversation, and I love the commitment!
You can take this course for free, or for a fee if you want a certificate or University credit. You can see all the past discussion on YouTube. Here is what we got to talking about, hope you enjoy!
it’s awesome to see ‘celebraties’ step into a canoe with the Anishnabe peoples and ‘learn’ about the journeys of our ancestors. Thank you!
